Women's Basketball: Ford surpasses 1,000 career points in win over Mt. San Jacinto

COSTA MESA -- Lisa Schumaker, Jamie Shine, America Robledo and now Courtney Ford. 
The exclusive "1,000-Point Club" received its fourth member on Wednesday as Ford and the Pirates topped visiting Mt. San Jacinto 74-55 for their 12th straight win.
For her career, Ford now has 1,013 career points after notching a game-high 23 against the Eagles. Schumaker (1985-1987) leads all Pirate players all time with 1,130 points. Shine (1994-96) is second all time with 1,060, while Robledo (1993-95) resides in third place with 1,053.
OCC (15-1) is currently ranked third in the state and second in Southern California in the latest jcscores.com poll. After falling behind in the game's early minutes, the Pirates quickly found their groove and grabbed the lead away from MSJC (7-5) and never lost it the rest of the way.
Katie Kissee added 11 points, four assists and four steals, while point guard Rachael Mault dished out a game-high 12 assists.
Mt. San Jacinto was led by Michelle Simmons with 12 points and Thalia Benjamin with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
OCC will travel to Ventura to play in the Ventura Crossover on Dec. 28. There, the Pirates will open with Antelope Valley, beginning at 5 p.m. The following night, the OCC Pirates will take on the host Ventura Pirates, beginning at 7 p.m. Coast will return home on Friday, Jan. 11 against Cypress at 7:30 p.m.
