Men's Basketball: Pirates fall at Pasadena

PASADENA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team opened the 2008 calendar year with an 82-78 nonconference road loss to host Pasadena City College on Friday night.
Shaun Engle led the Pirates (4-13) with 18 points and four assists, while Brian Gee added 15. Matthew Ching tossed in 11 points and Terry Martin contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Lancers (2-12) opened the game with an 18-6 run before the Pirates responded with a 17-4 outburst of their own to take a 23-22 lead.
OCC's lead grew as high as eight (60-52) midway through the second half before PCC chipped into the deficit and tied the game at 76. A pair of Rico Henderson free throws with 1:18 left gave the Lancers the lead for good.
Harold Cleveland led Pasadena City with 20 points, while Corey Caston added 16.
OCC opens Orange Empire Conference play at Irvine Valley on Wednesday before returning to the Peterson Gym for the first time since Nov. 16 to host Cypress. Both games will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
