COSTA MESA -- For just over 2 minutes, the Orange Coast College women's basketball team was simply unstoppable and that outburst helped lead the way to an 83-60 conference win over visiting Cypress on Friday night.
With 14:50 left in the first quarter, OCC held a 10-5 lead on the Chargers. The following 2:05, the Pirates ripped off a lightning-fast 15 points and before you could say "points off turnovers", Coast led 25-5 and never looked back.
Katie Kissee was a large part of that outburst, ripping off seven straight points. In that span, OCC forced four turnovers, turned them into nine points and then hit an additional three buckets in a row to complete the run.
Courtney Ford, who had a double-double in first half, finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Kissee and Brittany Taylor each added 14 points, while Casey Gomez chipped in 13 points. Taylor and Gomez went a combined 13-of-19 from the field, a scorching 68.4 percent.
Point guard Rachael Maulit continued to shine under the scoring radar, dishing out a game-high 12 assists and six steals.
Cypress was led by Letisha Batiste and Saw-Ann Bryan, who each had 13 points and combined for 18 rebounds. Sequana Norris added 12 points and four steals.
OCC returns to action on Wednesday at Fullerton, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates return to the Peterson Gym on Jan. 23 when they host Riverside, also at 7:30 p.m.
