Women's Basketball: OCC falls to Fullerton; 17-game OEC win streak snapped
Thursday, January 17, 2008

FULLERTON -- What began on Feb. 17, 2006 against Fullerton, ended on Wednesday against Fullerton as the host Hornets snapped Orange Coast College's 17-game Orange Empire Conference win streak by topping the Pirates, 68-56.

The last time the Pirates (18-3, 2-1 in OEC) lost a conference contest was Feb. 15, 2006 against Irvine Valley. Two nights later, OCC topped the Hornets for the first of 17 straight OEC wins.

OCC trailed for most of the game and despite a couple of runs in the second half, it was the Hornets (12-10, 2-1) who used their aggressive play to slow the guests down.

Fullerton outrebounded the Pirates 57-30 and was led by Amy Richard, who scored 23 points and grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds. Kristen Cabral also notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Courtney Ford led the Pirates with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Katie Kissee added 16 points and Brittany Taylor contributed 11. The rest of the team combined to miss 14 of their 15 shots.

With Ford's 25 points on Wednesday at 1,112 for her career, she is just 19 shy of passing Lisa Shumaker's career scoring mark of 1,130 points, set from 1985-87.

OCC shot 33.8 percent from the floor (22-of-65) and were outscored at the free-throw line 19-5 by the Hornets.

The Pirates return to action on Friday at Golden West, beginning at 7 p.m.
