Women's Basketball: Ford eclipses career scoring mark as Pirates rout Rustlers

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Sophomore guard Courtney Ford became Orange Coast College's all-time leading career scorer as the Pirates breezed past host Golden West, 80-25, on Friday night in Orange Empire Conference action.
Ford led the Pirates (19-3, 3-1 in OEC) with 19 points, giving her 1,131 points for her career. That number tops the previous best of 1,130, set by Lisa Schumaker, who played for Coast from 1985-87. Showing her all-around game, Ford also had 13 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in the win.
"Courtney's been a remarkable player for us the past two years," OCC head coach Mike Thornton said. "She is one of those players that is a scorer not just a shooter. She finds a way to get the job done no matter what the situation.

"Courtney and Jennifer Ludwicki, who was a one-year player for us in 1998, are the two most complete offensive players that we've had in my 19 years here. It's unbelievable that she has broken that long standing record with at least 11 games remaining in the season!"
Brittany Taylor provided a nice shooting night, scoring 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Katie Kissee nailed five 3-pointers for her 15 points. Niki Wakamiya came off the bench and notched 10 points with five rebounds and three assists.
OCC make quick work of the host Rustlers (6-14, 0-4), jumping out to a 42-19 halftime lead. The Pirates continued their dominance by holding GWC to just six points the entire second half.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday at home against Riverside, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
