Women's Basketball: Pirates make quick work of Santa Ana

SANTA ANA -- Another strong first half of basketball was more than enough for the Orange Coast College women's basketball team as the visiting Pirates rolled past Santa Ana, 88-46, on Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference action.
The Pirates 17 field goals, including four 3-pointers in the first half, to jump out to a 39-18 halftime lead. OCC's defense held the Dons to just 6-of-22 shooting in that same span.
Courtney Ford led the Pirates (22-3, 6-1 in conference) with 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Katie Kissee chipped in 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals and Brittany Taylor added 10 points and four assists.
Marielle McElroy led Santa Ana (15-8, 4-3) with 15 points.
OCC, ranked fifth in the state, sits alone in first place in the OEC with a 6-1 record. Fullerton is second at 5-2, while Saddleback, Santa Ana and Irvine Valley are close behind at 5-3 after the first half of conference play.
The Pirates will host the Lasers on Friday to open OEC's second round, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
