Women's Basketball: Maulit's record-setting night helps OCC top Cypress
Wednesday, February 06, 2008

CYPRESS -- Move over Flo Luppani, there's a new single-game assist leader in the OCC record book.

Rachael Maulit's 18-assist performance helped lead the way to a convincing 86-68 Orange Empire Conference win over host Cypress on Wednesday.

Maulit's 18 helpers shattered the previous-best mark, held by Luppani, who had 15 assists against Foothill and 14 against Cerritos, both in the 1994-95 season. WIth 394 career assists, Maulit is currently second on OCC's all-time list, behind Luppani's 454.

With the sophomore point guard spreading the offense around, several players had big nights. Courtney Ford and Simone Ibbotson each had 22 points for the Pirates (24-3, 8-1 in conference), while Katie Kissee and Casey Gomez each added 11.

Sequana Norris led Cypress (7-17, 3-6) with 15 points and seven rebounds.

OCC took control of things early, jumping out to a 40-23 lead at the half while holding the Chargers to just 9-of-35 shooting (25.7 percent) in that span.

The Pirates return to the Peterson Gym on Friday when they host the Fullerton Hornets, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
