COSTA MESA -- It only took the opening seven minutes of the first half for the Orange Coast College women's basketball team to grab control of Friday night's rematch with Fullerton.
Using a 16-4 run and forcing eight Hornets turnovers in that span, the Pirates topped Fullerton 64-50 to avenge their lone Orange Empire Conference to the Hornets back on Jan. 16.
The Pirates (25-3, 9-1 in the OEC) did a great job of spreading the ball around, allowing several players to contribute offensively. Courtney Ford led the way with 17 points, six rebounds and a game-high six assists and five steals. Brittany Taylor added 11 points and four assists and Katie Kissee added 10 points and three assists.
Just missing the double-digit mark was Simone Ibbotson (nine points, four rebounds), Rachael Maulit (eight points, four rebounds, four assists) and Erin Barney (seven points, three rebounds).
OCC held the Hornets (16-13, 6-4) to just 26.1 percent shooting in the first half (6-of-23) and never saw its lead dip below nine points the entire second half.
Fullerton was led by Jessica Duran (19 points), Sarah Olivas (13 points) and Amy Richard (13 rebounds).
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Golden West, beginning at 7 p.m.
