Men's Basketball: Pirates fall to Riverside

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team gave host Riverside all it could handle on Friday night, but in the end, it was the Tigers who prevailed, 81-72.
OCC (6-21, 2-8 in Orange Empire Conference), led 57-47 midway through the second half, only to see Riverside (23-7, 7-3) respond with a 20-10 run to tie things up late, 67-67.
Finally, the Tigers, led by 23 points from Charles Garcia and 22 points from Wayne Robinson, outscored the Pirates 12-2 over a span of 3:04 to lead 79-69 with just 36 seconds left.
Shaun Engle led the Pirates with a game-high 29 points and four assists, while Brian Helmuth added 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at Saddleback, beginning at 7:30. They will wrap up the regular season at home on Friday against Santa Ana, also at 7:30.
