Men's Basketball: Second-half surge lifts Pirates past Gauchos

MISSION VIEJO -- Thanks to a long-range shooting display in the second half, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team broke away from host Saddleback and defeated the Gauchos 94-70 on Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference action.
With the game tied at 39 at the half, the Pirates (8-20, 3-8 in the OEC) shot the lights out in the second half, hitting 13 of 22 shots from 3-point land (59.1 percent), outscoring the Gauchos (11-18, 3-8) by 24 in the second half.
Brian Gee, Tres Saldivar and Brian Molina combined to hit 15 of OCC's 16 3s for the game. Gee led all scorers with 20 points, Saldivar added 15 and Molina chipped in 14 for the Pirates.
Saddleback was led by Darryl Best with 18 points, while Charlie Oriel and Chris Rentie each added 11.
The Pirates will conclude their season on Friday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
