Men's Tennis: Pirates grab hold of second in OEC with win over Saddleback

COSTA MESA -- With half of the Orange Empire Conference schedule now in their rear-view mirrors, the Orange Coast College men's tennis team has posted a solid 5-1 conference record following Tuesday's 6-3 road win against Saddleback.
The win keeps the Pirates (8-3 overall) just a game behind first-place Riverside for the top spot in the OEC. The loss drops the Gauchos a game behind the Pirates for second place at 4-2.
Singles wins were posted by Gio Villicana (6-3, 6-3), Pat Lam (6-3, 7-5) and Kevin Kordestani (6-2, 6-2). Kevin Tran overcame a tough second set to rally past his Gaucho opponent to win 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3).
In doubles, Villicana and Landon Draper posted an 8-3 win, while Kordestani and Andy Ong hung on for an 8-5 victory.
OCC will return to action on Thursday at home against Fullerton, beginning at 2 p.m.
