Track & Field: Pirate men, women control things over Saddleback

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's and women's track and field teams continued their strong performances as they each defeated Saddleback in a dual meet on Friday.
The OCC women defeated the Gauchos 110-41, while the men prevailed, 84-70.
Sophomore standout Brenda Finney continued her winning ways, placing first in three events. She won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.58 seconds, then took first in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches) and the long jump (16-5).
OCC thrower Tamara Beardsley took first in both the discus (109-8) and the hammer throw (116-4), while teammates Caitlin Schott won the shot put (32-2 1/2) and Danielle Morton took first in the javelin (107-4).
Other first-place performances for the Pirates include Madison Empting in the 100 (14.01), Ashley Rodriguez in the 400 (58.88), Crystal Reed in the 800 (2:22.95) and Brianna Vanderwal in the 400 hurdles (1:05.5).
The women's 1,600 meter relay team of Ashley Rodriguez, Tiffany Hannah, Tracy Bjelland and Ana Rodriguez cruised to a first-place time of 4:24.67.
On the men's side, a pair of double-winners led the way for the Pirates.
Sophomore Jason Quezada took first in both the 800 (1:59.27) and the 1,500 (4:06.78), while teammate Andres Rossini dominated the discus throw (159-9) and won the javelin (165-11).
Other first-place performances went to Nick St. Andre in the 3,000 (9:10.23), Chris Macke in the high jump (6-2), Evan Campbell in the long jump (22-7), Eric Grunbaum in the shot put (44-1) and Scott Ruud in the hammer throw (136-7).
In relay competition, the men's 1,600 relay foursome of Chris Woods, Chris Pfeifer, Erik Donohue and Morgan Rose topped the field with a winning time of 3:21.36.
