Women's Tennis: Bass, two doubles still alive in OEC Championships
Friday, April 18, 2008

MISSION VIEJO -- Freshman standout Brittany Bass established a dominant singles record during the 2008 season and now, she's carrying that over into the Orange Empire Conference Individual Championships.

On Thursday, Bass swept past Santa Ana's Lisa Havish, 6-0, 6-0 before holding off Riverside's Caroline Houston, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to Friday's OEC finals, where she will face Saddleback's Erina Hung.

Hung eliminated the possibility of an all-OCC final by eliminating Pirate freshman Brittnie Furuvald, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. She also defeated Pirate teammate Evelyn Wallace, 6-1, 7-5, in the quarterfinals.

Furuvald advanced to the semifinals by topping Saddleback's Andrea Warren, 6-3, 6-4.

Plenty of Pirates still remain on the doubles side. The teams of Bass and Furuvald (6-2, 6-1) and Wallace and Kalin Eshelman (6-1, 6-1) earned straight-set wins to advance to Friday's semifinals.
