Men's Tennis: One singles, three doubles advance to SoCal Regionals

MISSION VIEJO -- Orange Coast College freshman Gio Villicana and a trio of doubles teams have advanced to the Southern California Regionals after advancing to the quarterfinals of the Orange Empire Conference Tennis Championships this week.
Villicana, seeded eighth in the tournament, earned a first-round bye before topping Fullerton's Keith Vasquez, 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 32 and Riverside's Jaco Gerbrands, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 16.
On the doubles side, Villicana and teammate Landon Draper reached the quarters with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Huy Nguyen and Jon Ormont of Irvine Valley. OCC's other doubles team, sixth seeded Pat Lam and Kevin Tran needed three sets to upend Charlie Hunt and Travis McClellan of Santiago Canyon, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 to reach the quarters. Kevin Kordestani and Andy Ong also advanced as a wildcard team.
The SoCal Regionals will take place May 1-3 at Riverside College.
