Women's Tennis: Bass, Furuvald capture OEC doubles title!

MISSION VIEJO -- A long day of tennis paid off for the freshman team of Brittany Bass and Brittnie Furuvald as they captured the Orange Empire Conference doubles title on Friday at Saddleback College. 
The OCC duo reached the finals with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Saddleback's Erina Hung and Andrea Warren, then later in the day, defeated Riverside's Caroline Houston and Jenny Vatelia, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.
Prior to those back-to-back three-setters, Bass took on Saddleback's Hung in the singles finals and lost, 6-1, 6-1.
The OCC doubles team of Evelyn Wallace and Kalin Eshelman reached the semifinals, but were defeated by Houston and Vatelia, 6-1, 6-1.
The Pirates will host the first round of the Southern California Dual Team Championships on Tuesday against Rio Hondo before heading up to the Ojai Invitational.
