Women's Tennis: Pirates blank Rio Hondo in Regional Playoffs

COSTA MESA -- Much like the rest of the 2008 season has transpired, the Orange Coast College women's tennis team continued its dominating play on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Rio Hondo in the quarterfinals of the Southern California Regional Dual Team Playoffs.
Brittany Bass again led the way with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Valerie Murillo. Other straight-set wins came from Brittnie Furuvald (6-1, 7-6), Evelyn Wallace (6-4, 6-1), Kalin Eshelman (6-1, 6-2) and Emily Garcia (6-0, 6-0). Jasmine Mathieson overcame an opening set loss to rally past her opponent, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The win improves the Pirates' record to 17-0 overall. They will compete at the Ojai Tournament before returning to playoff action. OCC will face the winner of the Bakersfield/Santa Monica match in the Regional Dual Team Semifinals on Tuesday at Orange Coast, beginning at 2 p.m.
Also, several Pirate individual players have qualified for the Southern California Individual Playoffs, held at Santa Barbara City College on Thursday, May 1.
