COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College baseball team was seeded third on Sunday for this year's Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host Long Beach City College in a best-of-three series, beginning on Friday at Wendell Pickens Field. Orange Empire Conference champion Santa Ana (31-10) earned the No. 1 seed, while Western State Conference, North Division champ Cuesta (30-13-1) was seeded No. 2. OCC (30-13-1) finished second in the OEC and despite having a higher RPI than Cuesta and despite going 2-0-1 against the Cougars this year, the Pirates ended up one spot lower in the seedings. Once again, it's another OEC-heavy lineup of teams as three other conference foes -- Irvine Valley (No. 4 seed), Cypress (No. 9 seed) and Riverside (No. 10) join the Pirates and Dons in the 18-team regional. OCC and Long Beach City have already played each other three times this year -- all three coming early in the season (Jan. 30, Feb. 1-2). The Pirates posted wins of 8-6 and 11-1 at OCC before losing the finale to the Vikings, 3-2 in Long Beach. A time for Friday's opener has not been announced as of yet, but according to head coach John Altobelli, it looks like it will be a 2 p.m. start, barring any conflicts.
