BAKERSFIELD -- While most of the competitors were vying for positions and seedings during the preliminaries of the Southern California Regional Track Meet on Friday, there were still some finals that were completed and Orange Coast didn't disappoint.
In the women's 10,000 meters, freshman Crystal Reed earned a spot in the State Finals with a strong second-place performance. Her time of 37 minutes, 42.9 seconds was over 2 minutes faster than third-place finisher Ines Flores of Saddleback (39:48.79). Glendale's Tove Berg won the race with a time of 36:22.75.
In the heptathlon, sophomore standout Brenda Finney finished third with a score of 4,317, slightly behind Fullerton's Ashley Fletcher (4,388) and Bakersfield's Anikia Jackson (4,501).
The finals of all remaining events will take place on Saturday at Bakersfield College.
