COSTA MESA -- While the men's team put up a crooked number on the scoreboard, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team did everything BUT score in Wednesday's season opener against visiting El Camino.
OCC outshot the Warriors 21-6, but a late second-half goal by ECC's Jamie Tribble sent the Pirates to a 1-0 loss.
Cynthia Rodriguez had six saves for the Warriors, but it was the goal itself that put up the biggest boundary for the Pirates as several shots rang off its posts or just missed wide or high.
"We definitely had several opportunities, but we couldn't finish them off," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "Our offense was aggressive and with more experience, we'll be able to finish those shots off and turn them into goals."
With the game held in a scoreless deadlock, Tribble took a long pass from Stephanie Hall and placed her shot over the outstretched arms of OCC goalkeeper Caitlin Schott (three saves) in the game's 73rd minute.
Two golden opportunities by the Pirates in the game's final few minutes were sent just beyond the goal, preserving the win for the Warriors.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday night under the lights against Rio Hondo, at OCC's LeBard Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
