COSTA MESA -- Following a frustrating season-opening loss to El Camino, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team found their offensive success under the bright lights of LeBard Stadium on Tuesday with a 4-0 nonconference win against Rio Hondo.
"We did a lot of things better tonight than we did last week," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "Tonight we did a much better job of finishing our scoring opportunities and we kept a lot of pressure on their defense."
The Pirates (1-1) needed just four minutes to grab hold of the lead for good as Kaleigh Trider scored the first of two goals on the night. Madison Empting ripped a shot from the corner that went through the arms of Roadrunner goalkeeper Amanda Garza and onto the foot of Trider, who buried the shot into the back of the goal.
Just six minutes later, Trider again was in the right place at the right time and scored off a rebounded shot from Julia Borkenhagen, giving the Pirates a 2-0 advantage.
With the offense continuing to click, Coast made it 3-0 in the 39th minute when Caitlin Wallace slid a nice pass over to Kaylee Schneekluth and the freshman ripped her shot into the upper-left corner of the goal.
Wallace capped off the scoring spree for the Pirates when she finished her shot into the right corner of the goal off a pass from Borkenhagen.
It was a pretty easy night for OCC goalkeeper Caitlin Schott. The sophomore posted two saves in the win and saw minimal action throughout the game.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday when they host Palomar at 5 p.m. at the OCC Soccer Complex.
OCC completely controlled the action from start to finish outshooting Rio Hondo 20-3.
