Women's Soccer: Pirates take care of East L.A., 1-0
Friday, September 12, 2008

COSTA MESA -- It was another dominating effort for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team, although the scoreboard hasn't supported that claim as of late.

However, a win is a win and the Pirates will take their 1-0 nonconference win over visiting East L.A. on Friday and build off of it with Orange Empire Conference play approaching soon.

OCC (2-2-2) outshot East L.A. (3-3) 19-4 in the game and used a penalty kick goal by Caitlin Wallace for the game's lone tally.

Despite the high number of shots, OCC nearly watched another win slip away as the visiting Huskies nearly tied the game in the 86th minute, but a Diana Rodas shot slipped to the right of the goalpost in the 86th minute, keeping Coast out in front.

Beth Krikorian got the game's lone scoring summary going in the 57th minute when she was tripped inside the East L.A. scoring box, resulting in a penalty kick. Wallace stepped up and ripped a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal.

OCC goalkeeper Caitlin Schott posted two saves for the Pirates, while East L.A. keeper Serina Lucero notched seven saves.

The Pirates return to action on Tuesday when they open Orange Empire Conference play at Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.
