Women's volleyball: Pirates post wins over Glendale, Citrus

GLENDALE/GLENDORA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 overall with back-to-back road wins over Glendale on Friday and Citrus on Saturday.
OCC opened the weekend action with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 win over host Glendale, then followed that up with a 25-14, 25-9, 25-20 win over the host Owls.
In the win against Glendale, sophomore middle blocker Christina Richards led the Pirates with nine kills and four solo blocks, while teammate Jessica Brown added eight kills and six digs.
Sophomore setter Emily Lyon paced the offense with 20 assists, while the defense was anchored by the combination of Rachel Freeno and Amanda Cheseborough (12 digs each).
Against Citrus, it was Brown who led the offense with 12 kills, while Rachel Freeno added 11 to go along with seven digs.
Lyon again sparked the offense with 26 assists, while the defense was led by Cheseborough with 12 digs.
The Pirates open their home schedule on Wednesday against Southwestern on Wednesday, beginning at 5 p.m.
