Men's Soccer: Pirates humbled by Cerritos, 6-0
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team is heading into Orange Empire Conference play with a three-game losing streak, thanks to Tuesday's 6-0 nonconference loss to visiting Cerritos.

The Falcons, winners of five straight and eight of their first nine contests, jumped out early and never looked back as they used their speed and finishing abilities to their advantages.

Timmy Seo had two goals, while Luis Gonzalez added a goal and an assist for Cerritos. Michael Vargas, Ricky Reyes and Alex Munoz each added single goals, while Salvador Melendrez dished out two assists and Munoz and Ricky Reyes passed out one assist apiece.

Falcons' goalkeeper Diego Millan had five saves, while OCC netminders Dane Fernandez and Brian Rippeto combined for 11 saves.

Cerritos got started early and scored in the game's third minute when Melendrez fed Gonzalez, who ripped a left-footed shot off of Fernandez's hands and into the back of the net.

A nice give-and-go situation provided Cerritos with its second goal as Gonzalez slipped a nice touch-pass to Vargas in the 12th minute to make it 2-0.

Off a Fernandez hand save, Seo used his head to bank in the Falcon's third goal of the half in the 23rd minute and the rout was on.

Second-half goals were provided by Seo (57th minute, Reyes (73rd minute) and Munoz (80th minute) and if not for some point-blank stops by Rippeto (eight saves), Cerritos would have added to its advantage.

OCC looks to turn things around on Tuesday at home against Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m.
