COSTA MESA -- It must have seemed like an offensive explosion for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team.
After scoring just one goal in their past three games (0-2-1), the Pirates came to life in the second half on Friday and posted a 2-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Santa Ana.
OCC (3-4-3, 1-2-1 in conference) controlled action from the opening whistle, outshooting the Dons 13-5 in the game.
It looked like another frustrating afternoon for the Pirates until the 45th minute, when Teresa Warner scampered around the right side and banked in a shot from a sharp angle that slipped past Dons' goalkeeper Karla Mandujano (five saves) for a 1-0 OCC lead right before halftime.
In the game's 68th minute, Julia Borkenhagen sent a nice pass to speedster Beth Krikorian, who crossed a nice pass around the charging Mandujano to Kaleigh Trider. The sophomore forward slammed her shot into the empty net for the game's final tally.
OCC keeper Caitlin Schott came through with three saves to earn her second shutout in conference.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday at Saddleback at 3 p.m. OCC's next home contest will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4 against Fullerton, also at 3.
