Men's soccer: Pirates snap skid with 2-1 win over Lasers
Tuesday, October 07, 2008

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team ended its five-game losing streak with a hard-fought 2-1 Orange Empire Conference win over Irvine Valley College on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, OCC (5-6, 1-2 in conference) took the lead when Marco Ramirez sent a nice pass to Pirate teammate Scotty Locken, who ripped a shot into the Lasers' net in the 55th minute.

IVC (3-5-2, 1-2) evened the contest up in the 60th minute off a goal by Yevgeniy Udartsev, but the Pirates answered back.

In the 88th minute, a nice cross-field pass from Gustavo Ibarra found its way to Locken and the sophomore from Marina High School again found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Pirate goalkeeper Brian Rippeto notched five saves to pick up the win.

OCC returns to action on Friday at home against Golden West, beginning at 3 p.m.
