COSTA MESA -- The best type of losing streaks are the ones that last just one match. Such was the case for the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team, who returned to the "win" column with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-13 win over visiting Riverside College on Friday night.
Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Bodkin led Coast (13-2, 5-2 in the Orange Empire Conference) with nine kills, while teammate Rachel Freeno added eight kills and a team-high 10 digs. Libero Amanda Cheseborough added eight digs, while setter Emily Lyon (pictured left) dished out 31 assists.
Brittney Rush led the Tigers (11-7, 2-5) with 10 kills.
The closest game of the match came in the opener when both teams battled to a 17-17 tie before the Pirates took control. After falling behind 18-17, Coast used some Tiger mistakes and ripped off eight of the next nine points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The next two games were controlled early on by the Pirates. OCC jumped out to a 13-4 lead in Game 2 and never looked back, then claimed a 14-7 advantage in Game 3 and cruised from there.
OCC returns to action on Wednesday night at home against Fullerton College, beginning at 7 p.m.
