COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team couldn't find success against the top team in the Orange Empire Conference as Santa Ana topped the Pirates, 2-0 on Friday at the OCC Soccer Complex.
Felix Rosales and Stanley Mejia each had a goal and an assist for the Dons (15-4-3, 9-1-2 in conference), while goalkeeper Jorge Sanchez notched five saves in the shutout win over the Pirates (10--3, 6-3-3).
OCC had a few solid chances to find offensive success. In the first half, Gustavo Ibarra had a nice steal deep in Dons territory, but his shot just sailed wide of the goal. A free-kick opportunity by Ibarra was targeted for the upper portion of the goal, but Sanchez made a nice fingertip deflection that kept the ball out of the goal.
With the Dons up 1-0 late in the second half, Luis Parra outfought Sanchez for a loose ball and had a great look at the goal, but his shot rolled wide-left at the 82nd minute. Three minutes later, Mejia's goal gave Santa Ana a two-goal cushion for the game's final few minutes.
OCC returns to action at Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before wrapping up the regular season on Friday at Cypress, also at 3.
