Men's Basketball: Pirates start hot, topple L.A. Harbor
Wednesday, November 12, 2008

COSTA MESA -- Some familiar rims made for some hot shooters for the Orange Coast College men's basketball team as the Pirates cruised past L.A. Harbor 91-70 on Wednesday at OCC's Peterson Gym.

The Pirates (1-2) found the win column for the first time this season, thanks in large part to some white-hot shooting from the perimeter. With a 13-of-21 shooting night from 3-point range (61.9 percent), Coast was led from downtown by the combination of Chad Delaney and Marcus Hairston, who went 7-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Martin Whitmore led the Pirates' offense with 14 points and six rebounds. Chad Curtis added 10 points and five rebounds.

Jeremy Holland led the Seahawks (0-3) with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Trailing 7-6 early on, OCC jumped ahead of L.A. Harbor for good with a 19-3 run. The lead grew to as many as 22 in the first half and 23 in the second half with the Seahawks never getting the deficit under double digits the entire night.

OCC returns to action on Wednesday at Moorpark College, beginning at 5 p.m. The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Thursday, Dec. 4 against Miramar at 5 p.m.
