COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team ended its 2008 regular season unbeaten in its last six games (2-0-4) with a 2-1 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Irvine Valley on Friday.
The win gives OCC an overall record of 9-6-7 and an OEC mark of 7-4-5. Playoff seedings will be decided this weekend.
"The girls came out and did everything they could to end the regular season on a winning note," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "We'll just have to wait and see if what we've done this year is enough to make it to the postseason."
With the game scoreless through 76 minutes of play, Coast's offense found life as a free kick by Caitlin Wallace was knocked in by teammate Kaleigh Trider, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
That lead didn't last long as IVC (3-16-4, 1-11-4) tied things up three minutes laterwhen a turnover by Coast was picked up by Daisy Garcia and the freshman midfielder ripped a well-placed shot from 25 yards out into the upper-right corner of the goal.
But Coast regrouped and just four minutes later, a cross-pass from Madison Empting found its way to teammate Brittney Bebek and the freshman forward found the back of the net to give OCC the lead for good.
OCC goalkeeper Caitlin Schott had two saves, while IVC keeper Lupe Jimenez stopped nine shots.
