GLENDORA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball gave the 12th ranked San Diego City Knights all they could handle on Friday night, but the Pirates came up just short, 74-70, in the opening game of the Neil Edwards Classic, at Citrus College.
OCC (1-4) trailed 40-24 at the half, but a furious comeback got Coast right back in the game. However, the Knights (6-2), led by 26 points and 11 rebounds by Malcolm Thomas, were able to hold off the Pirates' comeback bid.
Martin Whitmore led OCC with 19 points, while Cory Ford added 17. Chris Curtis chipped in 11 points, while Eric Williams contributed 10.
OCC returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Cuyamaca at Citrus College.
