Men's Basketball: Pirates go 1-3 to end nonconference

COSTA MESA -- After an 83-80 win against Monterey Peninsula, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team closed out the San Jose Tournament with losses to Cosumnes River 83-79 and Santa Rosa 73-71 before falling to West Los Angeles 79-68 on Friday in a nonconference matchup.
In the win over Monterey Peninsula, Martin Whitmore led the Pirates (7-12) with 19 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Eric Williams added 10 points.
Against Cosumnes River, Marcus Hairston led the Pirates' offense with 19 points, while Whitmore added 13 points and seven rebounds. Chris Curtis and Cory Ford joined the double-digit club with 10 points each.
In the loss to Santa Rosa, Whitmore posted a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Williams added 17 points.
OCC opens its Orange Empire Conference schedule on Friday at Irvine Valley at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to face Saddleback on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
