Women's Basketball: Gomez scores 29 as Pirates top Cypress

CYPESS -- Casey Gomez was the hot hand for the Orange Coast College women's basketball team on Friday night, scoring 29 points in the Pirates' 70-66 Orange Empire Conference win over Cypress.

Gomez, who also had six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, went 10-of-19 from the field -- including three 3-pointers -- and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line for Coast (16-6, 3-0 in conference).

Simone Ibbotson added 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Pirates, while Jenna Lujan and Samantha Harrell each scored six points.

After trailing by one at the half (35-34), the Pirates managed to outscore the Chargers (14-8, 2-1) by six in the second half, despite a huge night from Chargers' guard Quortlyn O'Neal, who scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.

OCC returns to action on Wednesday at Fullerton College before returning home to face Riverside on Friday. Both games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
