Men's Basketball: Pirates struggle early, fall to Cypress

CYPRESS -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team fell behind early and could never recover as the Pirates fell to host Cypress College, 109-82, on Friday.
 
OCC (8-14, 1-2 in conference) shot just 26 percent from the field (8-of-30) and fell behind 51-26 at the half, while the Chargers (12-11, 2-1) went 17-of-31 (54.8 percent), including 6-of-14 from 3-point range.
 
Eric Williams led the Pirates with 18 points, six rebounds, four steals, while Martin Whitmore (15 points and seven rebounds. Nico Saldivar and Chris Curtis each added 11 points and Gian Cook tossed in 10.
 
For the Chargers, 10 different players had at least seven points, led by DuWayne King's 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. For the game, the Chargers shot 52.6 percent from the field and had 12 3-pointers.
 
Coast returns to action on Wednesday at Fullerton College before returning home to face Riverside on Friday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
