Women's Basketball: Pirates stung by Hornets, 61-52

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team dropped its first Orange Empire Conference matchup of the season with a 61-52 loss to host Fullerton College on Wednesday at the Hornets' Nest.
It was a tough-shooting night for the Pirates (16-7, 3-1 in OEC) as they hit just 17-of-57 from the floor for the game (29.8 percent) and 5-of-23 from 3-point range (21.7 percent).
Both teams battled back and forth the entire night as the game featured 16 lead changes and 12 tie scores. Finally, led by 16 points by Marlene Oeurn and 14 points from Taiyande Huskey, the Hornets (17-7, 4-0) pulled away in the second half.
Fullerton pulled out Wednesday's win from the free-throw line, hitting 20-of-23 from the charity stripe, including 19-of-21 in the second half.
OCC returns to the Peterson Gym on Friday against Riverside, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
