COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team did everything it could to stay close with powerhouse Riverside College, but in the end, the Tigers prevailed, 84-64, on Friday in Orange Empire Conference action.
With height advantages throughout the lineup, the Tigers were able to find plenty of success down low, shooting 63.8 percent from the field (37-of-58). In fact, the shooting average would have been better if not for five missed dunks on the night.
OCC (8-16, 1-4 in conference), which was outrebounded 41-17, was led by Martin Whitmore (pictured left, 19 points), Eric Williams (17 points) and Chad Delaney (10 points).
Riverside's Robbie Robinson had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while three other Tigers (20-5, 4-1) notched double-digit scoring.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
