SAN BERNARDINO -- Thanks to an eight-run first inning, the Orange Coast College softball team cruised to a 14-8 nonconference win over San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday.
Kayse Potter highlighted the eight-run barrage with her first home run of the season to lead the Pirates (1-1). Nicole Silva and Katrina Gaar each had multiple hits for the Pirates. Gaar, a freshman centerfielder for the Pirates, added a home run of her own and made a stellar diving catch to anchor the defense.
Madelyn Page came in relief for the Pirates and pitched effectively, according to co-head coach Kevin Smith.
The Pirates return to action on Friday at Victorville before returning home for their home opener against L.A. Harbor on Monday, beginning at 3 p.m.
