Women's Swimming: Pirates topple Cypress, Saddleback

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's swim team cruised past Orange Empire Conference foes Cypress and Saddleback in a double-dual meet on Friday at Saddleback College.
The Pirates outscored the host Gauchos 193-91 and the Chargers, 226-51, thanks to several first-place performances up and down the roster.
In the 50-yard breaststroke, it was a 1-2 finish for the Pirates as Michelle Kirkpatrick hit the wall first with a time of 33.04 seconds, while teammate Jamie Krispel was close behind at 33.53.
Another 1-2 performance came in the 200 freestyle relay as the "A" team of Natalie Bell, Mariana Perez-Seda, Kirkpatrick and Sam Lane finished first at 1:46.42. OCC's "B" team of Danielle Lavery, Tasman Backer, Caitlyn Carralejo and Sylvia Espinoza took second with a 1:48.19.
Perez-Seda took care of business in the 50 backstroke with a first-place time of 30.45, with teammate Shyra Crandall coming in second at 32.67.
Coast finished 1-2-3 in the 200 free, thanks to the strong swimming of Perez-Seda (first, 2:08.48), Maddison Martin (second, 2:08.69) and Backer (third, 2:11.16).
It was more of the same in the 50 butterfly as Bell (28.15), Lindsay Ronce (28.37) and Karina Nummedal (30.15) took the top three spots.
In the 100 freestyle, Lavery made quick work of the competition, placing first with a time of 55.09.
Bell claimed her second individual victory of the day in the 50 freestyle with a 26.45), while Ronce claimed victory in the 100 backstroke (1:04.33), with Kirkpatrick (second, 1:04.95) and Crandall (third, 1:08.38) close behind.
Krispel placed first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.09, while the OCC "A" and "B" team took first and second respectively in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Lane, Krispel, Bell and Carralejo took first with a 1:59.15, while the quartet of Lavery, Perez-Seda, Backer and Ronce clocked in with a 2:00.11.
