Men's Basketball: Pirates end season on winning note

SANTA ANA -- WIth a 28-point, nine rebound performance from Chris Curtis, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team closed out the 2008-09 season with an 82-66 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana College on Friday night.
Nico Saldivar added 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from 3-point range, while Brian Helmuth added 10 points and six rebounds for the Pirates (10-21, 3-9 in conference).
Tyler Averill led the Dons (12-17, 2-10) with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcus McAdams added 18 points and 14 rebounds.
OCC jumped out early on the Dons and never looked back as an early double-digit lead held up the rest of the way.
The sophomore trio of Hellmuth, Saldivar and Eric Williams (eight points) combined for 36 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in their finale with the Pirates.
