Women's Basketball: Gomez, Ibbotson earn first-team All-OEC honors

COSTA MESA -- The top two scorers on this year's Orange Coast College women's basketball team -- sophomores Simone Ibbotson and Casey Gomez -- each earned first-team, All-Orange Empire Conference honors this past weekend.
 
Ibbotson led the Pirates with a 13.2 points-per-game average (fifth-best in the OEC) and was third on the team in rebounding (4.8 rpg). The 5-foot-9 guard/forward from Edison High School led the Pirates at the free-throw line, making 69 of 86 attempts (80 percent) and her and Gomez each led Coast with 38 3-pointers made.
 
Gomez, a 5-foot-9 guard from University HS, averaged 12.7 points (seventh-best in the OEC), 3.6 rebounds and a conference-best 3.8 assists per game. She also notched a team-best 75 steals and was second on the team in blocks with 12.
 
Orange Coast will play at Antelope Valley in the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Friday night, beginning at 7 p.m.
