HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College softball team split its four games over the weekend at the Golden West College Tournament, beating Santa Barbara (11-3) and Chaffey (7-6), while falling to Eastern Arizona (11-0) and L.A. Harbor (12-4).
In the win against Santa Barbara, the Pirates (5-9) were led by the foursome of Nicole Silva (4-for-5, two runs, two RBI), Kayse Potter (4-for-5, three runs, two RBI) and Katrina Gaar (2-for-5, three runs) and Kiele Brown (2-for-4, one run, one RBI).
In the win against Chaffey, OCC came out fast with a five-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Silva (2-for-3, three RBI). In the second, the Pirates got the runs they would need the rest of the game as Brown smacked a two-run home run, scoring Silva.
Chaffey had the bases loaded in the seventh, but the Pirates would survive, thanks to a lineout and a runner's interference to end the game.
OCC returns to action on Wednesday at home against Fullerton, beginning at 3 p.m.
