Swimming: Pirates prevail over Golden West

COSTA MESA -- Several outstanding performances were on display for the Orange Coast College men's and women's swim teams during Friday's dual meet with rival Golden West.

The OCC men topped the Rustlers, 121-101, while the OCC women also defeated GWC, 184-76.
 
On the women's side, five swimmers -- Danielle Lavery, Michelle Kirkpatrick, Natalie Bell, Mariana Perez-Seda and Jamie Pearce -- combined for 11 wins over GWC.
 
Lavery notched first place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.88 seconds), the 100 free (55.38) and the 200 free (1:59.18).
 
Kirkpatrick led the way in the individual medley races, placing first in the 100 IM (1:03.95) and the 200 IM (2:15.46).
 
For Bell, it was the butterfly races where she excelled, winning both the 50 fly (27.43) and the 100 fly (1:02.2).
 
The backstroke was Perez-Seda's success as she hit the wall first in the 50 back (30.67) and the 100 back (1:03.42).
 
For Pearce, the breaststroke events were her specialty as she won both the 50 breast (32.98) and the 100 breast (1:10.98).
 
For the Pirate relay teams, first place went to the 200 free relay (1:45.11) and the 200 medley relay (1:55.76).
 
On the men's side, individual first-place marks went to Kirk Pfotenhauer in the 1,000 free (10:24.16), Andrew Choi in the 200 fly (1:58.61) and Chase Secrest in the 200 breast (2:17.11). Also, OCC's 400 medley relay hit the wall first with a time of 3:31.41.
 
The Pirates return to action on Friday and Saturday at Pasadena City College.
