SAN DIEGO -- After losing for the first time in over a month, the Orange Coast College baseball team returned to winning form with a 15-9 nonconference road win over San Diego Mesa on Monday.
For the Pirates (22-8) it was another offensive barrage as they overcame an early deficit with 15 runs and a season-high 24 hits.
Not playing until fourth inning, Coast sophomore Drew Hillman made the most of his limited time, going 5-for-5, including a double and home run, four runs scored and four RBI. Beck Wheeler went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while three other players, Scott Stidham, Ricky Stokes and Josh Berryhill combined for nine hits, six runs scored and three RBI.
Bobby Orozco (1-0) pitched five innings of solid relief to pick up the win, allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
OCC returns to action on Wednesday at Palomar (1 p.m.) before traveling to College of the Canyons on Friday (2 p.m.). The Pirates' next home game will be on Saturday against Long Beach City, beginning at noon.
