CYPRESS -- Despite missing the team playoffs by one spot, several members of the Orange Coast College men's tennis team made plenty of noise at the Orange Empire Conference Tournament this past weekend at Cypress College.
Two singles players (Laurent Minguez and Brad Fisher) and three doubles teams (Minguez/Felix Demiro, Fisher/Yannick Lepage and Kevin Saenz and Brian Nguyen) have earned a spot in the upcoming Southern California Regionals thanks to victories obtained at the OEC Tournament.
Minguez advanced to the SoCal regionals, courtesy of a pair of straight set wins, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0, while Fisher followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 win and a 6-4, 6-1 triumph.
Saenz and Nguyen won their first-round match 6-4, 6-0, then upset the No. 6 seed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to qualify.
Minguez/Demiro came through with a 6-0, 6-3 win, while Fisher/Lepage rallied for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
"I'm very proud of these guys and this type of performance shows the depth of this team," OCC head coach Chris Ketcham said.
The SoCal Regionals will take place April 30 - May 2 at Long Beach City College.
