Women's Tennis: Bass, Boyer qualify for SoCal Regionals in singles, doubles

RIVERSIDE -- The dynamic duo of Brittany Bass and Melissa Boyer are plowing through the competition, both individually and as a team, for Orange Coast College at this year's Orange Empire Conference Women's Tennis Championships, held at Riverside College.
Bass, the top-seeded player in the tournament, opened her tourney run with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Santa Ana's Katherin Cung. From there, the sophomore defeated Fullerton's Shannay Lee, 6-0, 6-0 and Saddleback's Michelle Neville, 6-1, 6-0.
Boyer, the tourney's No. 4 seed, earned a 6-3, 6-1, win over Saddleback's Carrisa Fleming, then, topped Irvine Valley's Heather Withers, 6-0, 6-0 and Saddleback's Clara Kearney by default.
Both have advanced to the OEC semifinals, where Bass will take on third-seed Tiffani Shaik of Fullerton, while Boyer will face second-seed Caroline Houston of RCC.
In doubles, Bass and Boyer joined forces and posted straight-set wins in the first two rounds of the event, 7-6 (5), 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0.
The Southern California Regionals will take place, beginning Thursday, April 30 at Orange Coast College.
