COSTA MESA -- Despite a rough season of softball for the Orange Coast College Pirates, the strong play of freshman catcher/infielder Nicole Silva did not go unnoticed as she earned a spot on this year's All-Orange Empire Conference team, as voted on by the OEC coaches.
Silva, a 5-foot-11 slugger from Valencia High School, earned second-team honors after she batted .413 with a pair of home runs and 10 RBI in OEC play.
For the season, Silva batted .437 with three home runs and 23 RBI. Her .437 average was fourth-best among all conference players.
Despite missing several games due to a facial injury, Silva returned to the Pirates lineup and picked up right where she left off.
In her final game of the season against Golden West, Silva went 3-for-5 with a run scored in OCC's 13-9 loss to the Rustlers.
