HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Chris Licon pitched seven strong innings to lead the Orange Coast College baseball team past rival Golden West 6-4 on Saturday at GWC.
Licon (7-2), who struggled in his previous outing against Fullerton, held the Rustlers without a hit until the sixth inning. Brett Wallach threw two scoreless innings to pick up his third save of the season.
Scott Hong jump-started the Pirates' offense with a three-run double in the top of the first inning, giving Coast the lead for good.
With the win, the Pirates (28-11, 16-5 in OEC) remain atop the Orange Empire Conference standings by one game over Santa Ana. On Saturday, the Dons held on for a 12-11 win over Saddleback.
Up next for the Pirates is the OEC Mini-Tournament, which kicks off on Tuesday at home against Golden West. From there, OCC will play at home on Thursday against Irvine Valley and at Saddleback on Friday. All three games will begin at 2 p.m.
