Baseball: Super Regional opponents set

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College baseball team will take on Saddleback College on Friday in the second game of the 2009 Southern California Super Regional Playoffs at OCC's Wendell Pickens Field, beginning at 4 p.m.
Prior to the Pirates/Gauchos matchup, another Orange Empire Conference foe, Cypress College, will take on Foothill Conference champion Mt. San Jacinto on Friday at noon, also at Coast.
This will be the fifth meeting this year between the second-seeded Pirates (31-13) and the ninth-seeded Gauchos (29-18). OCC has gone 2-2 against Saddleback this year, 1-1 at Pickens Field.
In the opener, fourth-seeded Cypress (31-14) and seventh-seeded Mt. San Jacinto (33-11) will meet for the first time this year.
In the opening round of the SoCal Regionals, OCC swept past Ventura, 15-1 and 1-0 (10 innings), while Cypress swept through Allan Hancock, 10-3 and 11-3.
Mt. San Jacinto and Saddleback needed three games to get to the next round. The Eagles edged out Cerritos, 13-7, 7-8 (loss) and 12-10, while the Gauchos slipped past College of the Canyons, 12-10, 6-12 (loss) and 6-4.
The Super Regional is a four-team, double-elimination tournament that runs from Friday-Sunday.

Saturday, May 16
GAME 3 -- Loser, Game 1 vs. Loser, Game 2, 11 a.m. at an alternate site
GAME 4 -- Winner, Game 2 vs. Winner, Game 2, noon at OCC
GAME 5 -- Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4, 4 p.m. at OCC
Sunday, May 17
GAME 6 -- Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 4, noon at OCC
GAME 7 -- If necessary, 30 minutes after completion of Game 6, at OCC.
