LONG BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team remained undefeated through the first four matches, thanks to a 1-0 nonconference win over host Long Beach City on Tuesday.
Following a scoreless first half, the Pirates (4-0) took the lead for good when freshman forward Sara Gomez sent a long pass to teammate Taryn Bales, who took the ball down the left side and beat Vikings goalkeeper Sara Thatcher for the game's lone goal.
Pirates' keeper Claudia Arias preserved the one-goal advantage the rest of the way, notching seven saves for the shutout win.
OCC will kick off its Orange Empire Conference schedule on Tuesday at Riverside College, beginning at 3 p.m. The Pirates will open their home portion of their schedule on Sept. 18 against Santiago Canyon, also at 3 p.m.
