FRESNO -- After a strong performance in their season-opening meet at Cal State Fullerton, the Orange Coast College men's and women's cross country teams headed up to the Fresno Invitational this past weekend and came home with first-place team honors on both sides. The OCC men, thanks to four top-10 performances (and seven top-20 finishes), dominated the meet and finished with 36 points, while Glendale was a distant second with 114 points. On the women's side, it was a battle of cross country super-powers as the Pirates with 41 points edged out Glendale with 44 points. Top finisher for the OCC men was sophomore Sergio Olivarrias, who placed third overall with a four-mile time of 21 minutes, 1 second, just ahead of teammate Raul Torres' fourth-place time of 21:04 and Russell Westphal's fifth-place time of 21:31. Close behind were Jake Dawson (10th, 21:31), Francisco Baquero (14th, 21:36), Jorge Torres (16th, 21:41) and Eric Dyson (19th, 21:44). For the ladies, sophomore Kimone Hewitt led the way with a fifth-place time of 19 minutes in the 5K course. Three other Pirates cracked the top-10, including Andrea Guerra (7th, 19:18), Hillary Labelle (8th, 19:19) and Jane Kerner (9th, 19:22), while Andrea Gayton Jacob (12th, 19:29) was close behind.
