COSTA MESA -- It's only four matches into the season, but so far, so good for the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team as they improved to 4-0 overall with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 nonconference win over visiting Citrus on Friday night.
Poerava Gantt led the Pirates with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Karlee Skalla added 10 kills and Alyssa Huotari added seven.
On defense, Nikki Osuna came up with 18 digs, while freshman setter Kimya Jafroudi paced the offense with 26 assists.
Lindsay Mitchell led Citrus (0-4) with 12 kills.
It was relatively smooth sailing for the Pirates on Friday. In Game 1, they blew open a 12-8 lead with an 11-2 run to take the opener.
In Game 2, Citrus took a brief lead early on and was tied with Coast 14-14 before OCC ripped off the next 11 points to close things out.
It was more of the same in Game 3 as the Pirates jumped out early and never looked back. An 8-2 run to start the game was closed out with a 10-2 run at the end.
Coast returns to action on Friday at San Bernardino Valley at 6 p.m. The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday, Oct. 7 against rival Golden West, also at 6 p.m.
